Spring is green and fresh, with blossoms in the city and snow still on the mountain tops in March and April. May is one of the best months of the year: warm days, few crowds and lower prices. Rivers are full, so waterfalls like Kravice and Jajce are at their most powerful.
The busiest season, with long sunny days, outdoor cafés and the Sarajevo Film Festival in August. It's the best time for swimming at Kravice, rafting on the Neretva and visiting the mountains. Mostar can be very hot in July and August, so visit it early in the morning. Many visitors from the Gulf and the diaspora come in summer, so book your car early.
September and October are excellent: warm days, cool evenings, autumn colours on the mountains and much smaller crowds. November is the wettest month and quieter, with the lowest prices of the year. Winter tyres are required from 1 November.
Snowy and atmospheric, with the ski season on Jahorina and Bjelašnica, about 45 minutes from the city, and busy New Year celebrations. Days are short and cold, and roads into the mountains need care. All our cars have winter tyres in the winter months. Read our New Year in Sarajevo guide.
